Not all who wander are lost - America, days 11-15

This is the last part of this travel diary. I can barely believe I am home now again for over a week! I still think all the time of this holiday, it was just too awesome.. That is also the reason why I have the fix intent of coming back to this continent next summer. Anyway, let's get started.

DAY 11 - Thursday, July 16th, 5.53 pm - Columbus, a german restaurant and Cleveland

A new hotel again. This time we're finally staying longer, until the end of this trip. Today in the morning, we drove from Vermilion to Columbus, Ohio's capital. We visited the Statehouse there, a rather impressive and beautiful building with much marble, wood and moulding. Everything looked quite momentous, I mean, all american presidents since Lincoln visited this building. It was quite cool there, I was able to take a few smooth shots.

For lunch, we were at "Schmidts", a german restaurant and sausage-haus. Our dishes didn't taste like food from home, the waitresses wore T-shirts under their Dirndls and in front of the restaurant were the most cliché cardboard standups ever, BUT at the store right beside it I bought fudge, found a bunch of pretty postcards and a nice shot glass for my dad.

After a two hour drive back to Cleveland we arrived here at the hotel, and in 15 minutes we're visiting the Siebenbuerger-Sachsen-Club to have dinner there (lasagna, tacos and empanadas - veeeery yummy).

DAY 12 - Friday, July 17th, 9.17 pm - Lolly the trolley, Science centre, a ship and the beach

Today was the day for visiting Cleveland. In the first few hours we did a "Lolly the trolley - Tour", where we heard many interesting facts about the city, although 2 hours were a bit long for paying attention to the tour guide. We had lunch at the local science centre and then explored this museum on our own, which was quite fascinating. Because that was still not enough cultural programme for a day, we also got a good look on a ship from the 19th century. After this, we finally got to the beach in the afternoon. This one is called "Mentor Headlands Beach", is breathtakingly beautiful, has great rocks, billions of seagulls and even a lighthouse. We enjoyed our time there and ate "traditional" dinner: cheeseburgers with grilled beef.

DAY 13 - Saturday, July 18th, 12 pm - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hard Rock Café and Shopping

The rock and roll hall of fame was visited by our group today. The building itself is pretty fancy, similar to the Louvre in Paris. (It was designed by the same architect, by the way.) The inside was even better, we saw stuff from the Beatles, Beyoncé, ACDC, Michael Jackson, Elvis, also Fleetwood Mac and The Black Keys. They got many awesome things stored there, and we all were quite thrilled. In the afternoon we drove to a mall again, to finally get all souvenirs and to take advantage of the summer sales! Who still had not spent enough money by the end of this shopping afternoon, got the chance to buy special sweets at Walmart after we had a luxurious dinner in an ukrainian restaurant. The lunch today was insanely good as well, the Hardrock Café of Cleveland has the best salad in the world, my heart melted when I ate it. The music in this restaurant and the furniture is also really nice. After talking for an infinity about our shopping purchases, we're gonna go to sleep now.

DAY 15 - Monday, July 20th, 6.53 pm - Flying home

Detroit. We are now separated from our dear Jugendlager-colleagues since a few hours. The last time I've cried as much as today was at a funeral. I feel somehow empty, my heart feels that the people that have become important for me are missing. We said goodbye for a long time today, nobody wanted to leave! I am astound how many memories, strong and new friendships and stories can fit in not even two weeks. I am forever grateful for the chance of being part of this Jugendlager.
Yesterday I didn't write a single line, so, here comes my last (crying inside) travel diary entry:

In the morning hours we made our way to the "Goodtime 3", a ship that is located at the Lake Erie. We had lunch there: Chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes and salad with blood orange dressing - quite fancy for ship food. For dessert we even had a brownie, a cookie and a cream puff!
We were driving for about two hours on the lake, got a tan and enjoyed funnily conversations.

In the evening, there was - OF COURSE - a final hotel party, and that one was mad again. There were boys with make up and in dresses, with nail polish and fake boobs, a truth or dare fulfillment where honey was licked from a foot and a few room changes again (for example, Evan in our room - two girls didn't even realize that). It was an approriate last party, from which a few great pictures, empty beer cans and a love letter to LeBron James are left.

This Jugendlager was for sure one of the most epic things in my life, I love all of my new friends and I'm leaving a part of my heart here. Saxons, it was an honor, and we'll definitely meet again!
